Season double takes Old Georgians top

The Met suffered a rare home defeat at the hands of Weybridge outfit Old Georgians. The Old Boys completed the double over the Met, adding this bonus point victory to the narrow win they achieved back in October. The result sees a change in the top positions, with Old Georgians claiming top spot on the basis of "most wins" whilst level on points with Bec Old Boys. The Met drop to third, having picked up one fewer bonus points than Bec. There is clear space between the Met and the chasing pack.
It was a strange performance from the Met. Injury forced the Met into changes as early as the 4th minute and the visitors quickly rattled up two tries to add to an early penalty goal. The Met's pack appeared to have dominated the set piece, at one point trundling back the Old Boys some 20metres at a scrum. Chris Holloway and Jack Scott scored tries to bring Met back into contention but an injury to Liam Maher had a stiltifying effect on their progress. Further penalties were exchanged and the teams turned around with Georgians 21-15 to the good. The Met had their chances to add to their two tries but were guilty of being over-ambitious at times, often throwing long and ultimately inaccurate passes when simple handling would have achieved more. The athletic Old Boys were able to make extended carries due to some unusually lax tackling around the fringes. On the upside, Met conceded very few penalties, although they did amount to 9 points.
The second half started well for the Met with Druce landing his second penalty kick and, in spite of lock Rory Byrne being sent to the bin almost immediately after the successful kick, Chris Holloway scored his second try with an excellent finish in the right corner. Druce converted to put the Met four points ahead but from the restart the Police were pinned back on their own line. A penalty try was conceded and Will Ferguson followed Byrne into the bin, with Old Georgians regaining the lead. The last 11 minutes were frantic and very exciting as both sides went all out for the win. It was Old Georgians who came out on top, claiming a rare try bonus point for themselves and preventing the Met from recording even a losing bonus as a 79th minute try brought the battle to a close.
