Police comeback seals impressive victory

The Met delivered a marvellous second half performance to maintain a perfect start to the League season. Having travelled the short distance along the Thames to the home of Worth Old Boys, the Met withstood a first half mauling to deliver a stunning victory, scoring five tries in the process.
Worth came out of the blocks at a sprint, quickly establishing a 12 point advantage. The Met had been forced into several changes after their victory against Old Emanuel, giving debuts to Camilo Parilli-Ocampo and Huw Longden, and with skipper Healy also missing, it was evident that the starting XV was struggling to establish itself as a cohesive unit. The early set-backs focussed the minds and as the clock approached the half hour mark, Richard Blears managed to force himself over the line despite the attentions of several defenders to get the visitors off the mark.
In what was to become a pattern off the game, the Met quickly followed up with a second try, this time Steve Routledge finding his way over the line with Sam Druce adding the conversion to level the scores. Whilst Worth OB were clearly rattled by the turnaround, they showed much of the class and composure that contributed to their successful 22-23 season. In the final minutes of the half, Worth OB ran in a third, converted try, followed by a penalty almost straight from the restart. The Met went into the break 10 points adrift but the chance to regroup proved timely.

It took the Met a little while to re-establish their grip on the game but once they did, the affect was monumental. On 48 minutes, Jack Scott crossed for a try and the game swung inexorably in the Met's favour. Further tries followed from William Allen and Jack Doswell, both converted by Druce. Worth recorded a late try to claim a bonus point but it was a small consolation for a home defeat.

The Met showed great character and a determination to fight for every inch of ground. The Police are now joint top of the League with Bec Old Boys on maximum points, three ahead of third placed Worth.
