PSUK CUP DRAW GIVES MET CHANCE FOR REVENGE

PSUK CUP DRAW GIVES MET CHANCE FOR REVENGE

Neil SINCLAIR26 Aug 2024 - 22:00

Police face three Welsh Constabularies in group stage

The Met have been given a chance to avenge last season's PSUK Cup defeat at the hands of Dyfed Powys. The draw has pitched three Welsh Constabularies against London's Finest. South Wales Police, Dyfed Powys and Gwent will meet the Met en route to the knock out stage. It does mean that the later stages of the tournament will be missing two of the stronger teams of the 21st century. The Met has struggled to get its hands on the trophy although last season's defeat by two points to Dyfed Powys heralded an unusually early knock-out blow in an otherwise successful Centenary season.

The September fixture against Dyfed Powys is set for Wednesday 25th, although venue and kick-off is still to be confirmed. The Met will be hoping that numbers at training will increase post-Notting Hill Carnival weekend and the spate of summer riots that preceded it.

The Met's league season commences on 7th September so they should have three matches under their belts before the PSUK cup game. As always, selection can prove a headache for the Police. Not because of a surfeit of players but because of operational requirements, often with very little notice. Hopefully the new season will herald consistency, both on match days and training nights.
