Met ease to victory but see top spot nicked

The Met Police provided another powerful demonstration of their Surrey 3 credentials against Croydon. The big, powerful outfit from the League's most south-easterly outpost were unable to breakdown the Met's formidable defence and had no answer to the pace and strength of the Police backs.

Croydon, in the difficult position of having only one replacement, had a clear game plan to stick the ball up the jumper of the first receiver and batter their way through the Met's first line of defence. Unfortunately for Croydon, the Police have really taken to heart their recent coaching sessions and, until the final ten minutes, proved to be impregnable. Aided by Croydon's escalating tendency to look at the likely tackler before actually securing the ball, the Met were able to turn over possession almost on contact and release the three-quarters to rack-up a third bonus point victory.

The Met looked fairly comfortable throughout, with their scrum performing particularly solidly against a big pack. The game was played in a good spirit in spite of its attritional nature, so it was somewhat surprising to see two yellow cards per side and a red one for the visitors. If anything, it was a carrot to Croydon who managed to pull back two tries whilst down to fourteen men, and the failure to record a consecutive shut-out should be a disappointment to the Thin Blue Line. The lack of a fit goal kicker has also proved slightly costly, as the points lost from conversations has seen the Met slip from the top of Surrey 3 on points difference. Both Old Caterhamians and Old Rutlishians rattled up big wins, of 73 and 58 points respectively, to climb above the Imber Court side.

But it is still early days and, after a week off, Old Cats travel to Croydon, Ruts travel to the fourth unbeaten club Horley, whilst Met make the trip to last season's bête noir, London Media, determined to avoid any surprises.
