THE MET POLICE are getting rugby for their second consecutive season in Surrey Two, which kicks off on 6th September with a trip to Chipstead RFC. With a bit of neat symmetry thrown out by the RFU computer, the uncharacteristically long grass roots season ends with Chipstead being welcomed to Imber Court on 25th April 2026.
The Met will have a new look to the management team this autumn. Goal-kicking metronome Sam Druce has taken over the coaching mantle with new captain's duties being shared between Jack Doswell-Lowe and Joe Stirrup. Long time match photographer Trevor Gardner has stepped up to be 1st XV Manager.
After a handful of successful seasons, Druce is already ringing the changes in the hopes that the Club can improve further. Training sessions away from Imber Court are intended to make life easier for the police officers who habitually struggle to combine the demands of league rugby with shift work.
The Met also start their PSUK Cup campaign, entertaining Thames Valley Police at Imber Court on Wednesday 24th September for an evening fixture.
After a somewhat fallow 24-25, both the 2nd XV and the Women's XV are hoping to fulfil more fixtures in the new season. Hopefully the World Cup (and Holly Aitchison's social media) will encourage more women to play rugby and they'll find a warm welcome at Imber Court.
New players are welcome to join both Men's and Women's squad, including non-police employees.
We look forward to seeing everyone at Imber Court for a "Club Day" on 30th August. In the meantime, Monday evening touch rugby continues to be a popular draw, for both serious players and men and women wanting to enjoy a couple of hours of fun with a rugby ball.
