Although the Metropolitan Police played its first game of competitive rugby on 22nd March 1923 (against Kings College, London University) and one more before the season's end, a Committee was not formed until the start of the 1923-24 season. The first game of a comprehensive fixture list was scheduled for 3rd October - it was cancelled - but the Metropolitan Police Rugby Football Club subsequently fulfilled 25 fixtures, winning 13 and losing 9, whilst a 2nd XV won 7 of 15 fixtures.
Thus, The Met welcomes in its Centenary season, starting with its Annual General Meeting and the election of its Centenary Committee on 1st June. The AGM takes place at the forever home of Imber Court in East Molesey, within a short walk of Hampton Court Palace.
The Club will hold a Centenary Dinner at the end of the season before setting off on a tour to foreign climes. A series of other events marking the momentous year are also planned. All former players who wish to remain informed are invited to contact John Packer in the first instance and to keep returning to these pages as the season progresses.
