Met Police need to make defence a priority in promotion battle

It may be very early in the 18 match League season to be making assessments, but The Met have certainly shown early intent.
Sitting on top of the fledgling table by virtue of their points difference, The Met have the chance to maintain their good start when they host Croydon this weekend. Croydon have so far managed just one losing bonus point, at Horley last weekend, but Horley are also early pace-setters in the League, so The Met should not be complacent. Indeed, the four teams on maximum points avoid each other until Horley play Old Rut's in a fortnight's time.
As things stand, second-placed Old Rutlishians have a slightly better defensive record than The Met, although one might argue that the scores submitted after the Met-Merton fixture have a part to play in that. It would appear that the Met has scored one more try than Caterham in third place, but in fairness, the four leading teams are all scoring with some freedom so far.
It would indicate that the hard work Jake Cottrell has put into the defensive plays will be key to the Met achieving its stated aim of promotion come April. With a 2nd XV supporting the League squad, it is hoped that the early injuries will not affect the Met's style and resilience. The 2nd XV suffered a narrow defeat in a high scoring game at Woking and will be looking forward to a successful run in the Surrey Jug, once it gets underway.
Last season The Met lost out in a three-Club race, this season it is hoped that they can race away from three others.
